Me: hi.
Nelson: yo.
Nelson: how goes it?
Me: been better.
Nelson: ack, not cool...
Me: been a lot worse, but it has been better.
Nelson: oh, the slightly flaky girl?
Nelson: them's bad news
Me: try really fucking flaky. she promises-the first time I think I've heard her use that word-that we would get together to talk tonight. she calls while I'm still at work, and she knows I'm still at work. I get back from work and call her; her phone's off. as it stays for the next few hours.
Me: I figure: the only valid excuse for flaking on a promise (which ordinarily wouldnt be a big deal except that she said it, because she recognized that she's been crappy to me recently, at the end of a really big conversation...it's all about the context, and we need to talk) is if she's comatose or something. if yoour phone dies, find a damn payphone and at least let me KNOW you arent gonna make it.
Me: if you want to stay on my good side, you do NOT stand me up.
Nelson: yeesh
Nelson: not good in the slightest, I reckon
Me: no, and the worst part is how angry I let myself get about it. I mean we've explicitly determined that ours is a "non-relationship," meaning no extra-friendship expectations, obligations, etc. but what she's doing...man, she's not even consistently holding her weight as a friend.
~~
But I did get two Carl Hiassen books and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius for $15, used. I have found my Borders alternative, at least as far as older titles are concerned. It's wonderful.
But on the first hand, my car is getting towed to the garage tomorrow and I will have to find out the bill from Chicago...fun shit.
